Every year in Cordoba, Spain, occurs a unusual but very interesting flowery contest dedicated to all private gardens of the houses which, for a short period, show what normally remains closed to elect the best. In other words, you can visit all the typical Andalusian’s gardens that usually are accessible only for dwelling’s owners. In this contest you can appreciate all the colours, the perfumes and the surprises. WHAT ARE THEY? “Los patios” are interior spaces or little courtyards in houses, where plants, vases, flowers, trees and fountains are located. They are cool and ventilated areas that belong to the owner or to the residents of the dwelling. WHERE,HOW AND WHEN The contest in “los patios” occurs in Cordoba, Andalusia, Spain, from the 2nd to the 15th of May (11.00 am – 2.00 pm in the morning and 6.00 pm – 10.00 pm in the evening) and permits to everyone to access free at “los patios” to admire the magnificent colours and flowers grown inside the gardens which participate to the celebration. SOME ADVICES. If it is possible, avoid eating in train station where the prince is very expensive despite the city… Cordoba is a very touristic city and, especially during these events, the hotter areas become the most expensive one! · If you want to avoid endless queues to visit “los patios” which have won in the last years, try to visit them in the morning when there is not a lot of people… After 2.00 pm groups and crowds arrive and the wait continue for a lot of time! · Do not ignore “los patios” that haven’t won! There are a lot of gardens full of beautiful flowers and plants in which nobody enters.. They will not look as the best three, but they deserve a peek.
